Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, a 21-year-old midfielder currently on loan at Pisa from Inter Milan, has received his first call-up to the Nigerian national team for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco. In an interview with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Akinsanmiro expressed his surprise and emotion upon receiving the invitation, stating, “I wasn’t expecting it to be honest… when I saw the invitation, to be honest, I called someone who is closer to me and I started crying because it has been a dream for so long.”
Akinsanmiro’s journey to the national team has been marked by perseverance. He revealed that he once stepped away from football to learn barbering, questioning his abilities after not making the U17 and U20 national teams. However, his determination led him back to the sport, culminating in his current success.
