SUPER EAGLES CAPTAIN WILFRED NDIDI MOURNS LOSS OF FATHER AFTER ROAD ACCIDENT

Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has been plunged into mourning following the death of his father, Sunday Ndidi, who died earlier today after being involved in a fatal road accident in Umunede, Delta State. The news has been confirmed by Beşiktaş JK, Ndidi’s Turkish club, and widely reported by national and international media.

According to reports, the retired military officer was rushed to a hospital in Agbor, Delta State, after the accident but later succumbed to his injuries. Authorities and eyewitnesses described the incident as a tragic traffic collision on a busy road in the region.

Beşiktaş issued an official statement via its verified social media channels expressing deep sorrow over the loss. In the statement, the club said:

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of our footballer Wilfred Ndidi’s esteemed father, Sunday Ndidi, in a fatal traffic accident. May Allah grant mercy to the deceased; we extend our condolences to our footballer Wilfred Ndidi, his family, and loved ones.”

The news has also drawn heartfelt condolences from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), teammates, fans, and sports stakeholders across Nigeria and beyond.

Ndidi’s father was a significant influence in his life and career. The midfielder has previously spoken about his father’s role in shaping his discipline and passion for football. Just months ago, during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Ndidi scored his first international goal and dedicated it to his father, noting the importance of his support and encouragement throughout his career.
