Ghana captain Jordan Ayew has declared that the Black Stars are heading to the 2026 FIFA World Cup determined to “put on a show” and proudly represent both Ghana and Africa on football’s biggest stage.
Speaking through Ghana Football Association media channels as preparations intensify for the tournament in North America, the veteran forward expressed confidence in the squad’s mentality, tactical direction and growing unity under head coach Carlos Queiroz.
“We just want to go there and put on a show and represent Africa and Ghana the best we can,” Ayew said. “And I am confident that with the manager’s ideas and the boys’ commitment, I am sure that we will surprise people.”
The Black Stars are expected to lean heavily on the leadership of Ayew, Thomas Partey, Iñaki Williams and Baba Rahman as Ghana seek to recapture the spirit of their historic runs at previous tournaments.
Queiroz has spent recent months rebuilding the team’s structure with a greater emphasis on tactical discipline, physicality and fast attacking transitions — a philosophy many observers believe suits the current profile of the squad.
The Portuguese tactician has repeatedly stressed the importance of mentality and collective commitment, themes echoed strongly in Ayew’s latest remarks.
Ghana’s preparations have also generated optimism due to the emergence of players such as Antoine Semenyo, Ernest Nuamah, Kamaldeen Sulemana and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, whose pace and direct style could make the Black Stars one of the tournament’s dangerous transition sides.
Ayew, one of Ghana’s most-capped players, is preparing for another major international tournament carrying the responsibility of leading a squad eager to restore the country’s standing among Africa’s elite football nations.
