Bernardo Silva: “When Real Madrid Called, I Had No Doubts”

Bernardo Silva has revealed that he needed no convincing to join Real Madrid, describing his move to the Spanish giants as the best decision for his career and family and the fulfilment of a childhood dream.

Speaking to Realmadrid TV following his official presentation at the Ciudad Real Madrid, the Portuguese midfielder said he immediately accepted when Real Madrid expressed their interest.

“When Real Madrid called me, I had no doubts. When they called and said they were interested, I immediately said yes, without thinking twice, because I believe it’s the best option for me, for my career, and for my family. Being here is a dream come true.”

Silva was officially welcomed by Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez on August 19, where he signed a contract keeping him at the club for two seasons until June 30, 2028. He was also presented with the No. 20 shirt.

The 31-year-old midfielder said the scale and history of Real Madrid became even more striking once he arrived at the club, particularly when he saw the club’s collection of 15 European Cup/Champions League titles.

“Since I was a child, when you still don’t know if you will become a player or not, your dream is to play for a club like Real Madrid,” Silva said. “To be here, to play for this club, to try to win trophies and follow Real Madrid’s winning path, is very special.”

Silva has already made his first appearance for Madrid, coming off the bench in the club’s pre-season victory over Ferencvaros in Budapest. He played 48 minutes and subsequently expressed his happiness at beginning his Real Madrid career.

The former Manchester City captain also spoke about his family’s happiness with the move, noting that living in Madrid places them closer to their families and gives the transfer significance beyond football.

For Silva, however, the focus is now firmly on delivering on the pitch. He promised to put the team ahead of personal interests and give everything in every match as he begins a new chapter with one of football’s most decorated clubs.
