Super Eagles Forward Leaves Nice for Hamburg in Permanent Deal
Terem Moffi has officially completed his move to Hamburger SV, with the Nigerian striker joining the Bundesliga newcomers from OGC Nice on a permanent transfer.
The 27-year-old passed his medical examinations in Hamburg over the weekend before putting pen to paper on his new contract. He has been handed the No. 9 jersey, signalling the role Hamburg expect him to play as they strengthen their attack ahead of the new Bundesliga campaign.
Moffi arrives after a difficult period at Nice. The Nigeria international joined the French club permanently in 2023 and scored 24 goals in 72 appearances across all competitions before spending the second half of last season on loan at Porto, where he recorded two goals in 15 competitive appearances.
His move to Hamburg therefore represents an opportunity to reset his career and rediscover the goalscoring form that previously made him one of the most sought-after forwards in French football.
Hamburg’s sporting hierarchy clearly sees the Nigerian as more than simply a squad addition. Sporting director Claus Costa praised Moffi’s ability to attack spaces behind defensive lines, his strength in the penalty area and his capacity to contribute with his back to goal.
Moffi, meanwhile, said conversations with the coach were particularly convincing and that the club’s identity and passionate fan base also influenced his decision.
Financial details were not disclosed by Hamburger SV or Nice in their official announcements. However, reports from L’Équipe and Sky Sport put the transfer at approximately €2.5 million in total, comprising a €2 million guaranteed fee and up to €500,000 in bonuses, while the reported contract runs until 2029.
For Moffi, the challenge is now clear: turn a fresh Bundesliga opportunity into the platform for a career resurgence and return to his most prolific form.
