Osimhen Fires Galatasaray to First Champions League Win With Lille Comeback

Victor Osimhen scored in the second half as Galatasaray recovered from a deficit to defeat Lille 4–2 in France on Wednesday, securing their first points of the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League league phase.

The Nigeria international struck in the 61st minute at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy to complete Galatasaray’s comeback against his former club, capping a decisive second-half performance by the Turkish champions.

The victory marked Galatasaray’s first win of this season’s Champions League campaign and earned Osimhen the Player of the Match award, according to UEFA.

Galatasaray made an explosive start, taking the lead after just two minutes when Yunus Akgün finished from close range following Barış Alper Yılmaz’s attacking move.

Lille responded through 19-year-old Soriba Diaoune, who equalised in the seventh minute before scoring again in the 39th to put the French side 2–1 ahead.

However, Galatasaray restored parity shortly before the interval when Aleksey Batrakov headed home in the 44th minute, sending both teams into the break level at 2–2.

The visitors took control after the restart. Lucas Torreira headed Galatasaray into the lead in the 52nd minute, converting Gabriel Sara’s corner to make it 3–2.

Osimhen then delivered the decisive blow nine minutes later. Following a swift attacking move involving Batrakov and Yılmaz, the Nigerian striker finished from inside the box to extend Galatasaray’s advantage to two goals.

The goal completed a remarkable turnaround after Lille had twice taken the lead and left the visitors firmly in control of the contest.

Osimhen was named Player of the Match, underlining his contribution to a result that gave Galatasaray their first points of the league phase. The club’s next Champions League fixture is scheduled against VfB Stuttgart on 3 November.

For Osimhen, scoring against Lille added another notable chapter to his European campaign, with the Nigerian forward finding the net against a club he previously represented.
