Arsenal Silence Anfield as Havertz Strike Sends Gunners Top and Leaves Liverpool Shot-Shy

Arsenal delivered a statement victory at Anfield, defeating Liverpool 1-0 on Sunday to end their long wait for a Premier League win at the stadium and reclaim top spot in the table.

Kai Havertz proved decisive, converting Declan Rice’s delivery in the 16th minute to hand Mikel Arteta’s side a precious lead they defended with discipline and determination until the final whistle.

The German forward’s finish capped a swift attacking move after Martin Ødegaard capitalised on a misplaced pass from Alisson Becker. Noni Madueke then released Rice, whose low cross found Havertz in space to finish from close range.

Liverpool struggled to find a way through Arsenal’s defensive organisation. Despite registering 17 attempts, Arne Slot’s side failed to put a single effort on target, meaning David Raya was not required to make a save.

The hosts threatened through set-pieces and moments of pressure, but Arsenal remained composed, restricting Liverpool’s attacking threat and protecting their advantage through the closing stages.

The victory ended Arsenal’s 13-match winless Premier League run at Anfield, a sequence that had produced five defeats and eight draws. Their previous league victory at the ground came in September 2012.

The result also strengthened Arsenal’s position in the title race, with the Gunners moving three points clear at the summit following Manchester City’s 1-0 defeat to Brighton on Saturday.

For Arteta, it was another important away triumph built on defensive resilience and clinical finishing. For Liverpool, the defeat exposed their inability to turn territorial pressure and shot volume into genuine goal threat.

Arsenal left Merseyside with all three points, a place at the top of the Premier League and a significant psychological hurdle finally overcome.
