Paris Saint-Germain have sent another powerful warning to Europe’s elite after producing a devastating 6–0 victory over Villarreal in the UEFA Champions League, extending their perfect start to the competition.
Luis Enrique’s defending champions were in unstoppable form at the Estadio de la Cerámica on Tuesday night, delivering one of the most extraordinary attacking performances of this Champions League campaign.
The Parisians needed just eight minutes to score four goals, overwhelming Villarreal with an attacking display that left the Spanish hosts struggling to recover.
João Neves opened the scoring in the ninth minute, capitalising on a loose ball inside the Villarreal penalty area.
Désiré Doué doubled PSG’s advantage in the 12th minute before Senny Mayulu struck just a minute later to make it 3–0.
Fabián Ruiz then completed the remarkable first-half scoring burst in the 17th minute, taking PSG to four goals in just 17 minutes.
According to UEFA, this established a new record for the fastest time a team had reached four goals in a Champions League match.
Villarreal had been completely overwhelmed by PSG’s aggressive pressing, quick combinations and clinical finishing.
PSG showed no intention of slowing down after the interval. Fabián Ruiz scored his second of the evening in the 50th minute, finishing a move created by Vitinha.
The sixth goal arrived in the 78th minute when 17-year-old David Boly found the back of the net following João Neves’ assist.
It was a memorable moment for the young Parisian, who added another highlight to an already remarkable European night. Ruiz was subsequently named UEFA’s Player of the Match.
FOUR IMPORTANT ABSENTEES, BUT PSG STILL DOMINATE
Perhaps even more impressive was the fact that PSG delivered this performance without several key players. Ousmane Dembélé, Marquinhos, Nuno Mendes and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia were unavailable through injury.
Nevertheless, Luis Enrique’s squad demonstrated its impressive depth, with younger players and established stars stepping up when needed. The result underlined PSG’s ability to remain dangerous even when important members of their first-team squad are unavailable.
FOUR WINS FROM FOUR: PSG LEAD THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
The victory takes PSG to 12 points from their opening four league-phase fixtures. They have scored 20 goals and conceded just five, establishing themselves as one of the competition’s most impressive sides. Their results include victories against Slovan Bratislava, Manchester City, Barcelona and now Villarreal.
The next European challenge will come against Roma on 25 November.
