Egypt advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a 3-1 victory over Benin after extra time in Agadir. The match was tightly contested, with both teams displaying resilience and determination.
After a goalless first half, Egypt broke the deadlock in the 69th minute when Marwan Attia scored with a stunning 30-yard strike. Benin responded in the 83rd minute through Jodel Dossou, who capitalized on a deflected cross to level the score. [1]
In extra time, Egypt regained the lead in the 97th minute with Yasser Ibrahim’s header from an Attia cross. Mohamed Salah sealed the victory in the final moments (120+4) with a composed finish, marking his third goal of the tournament and 10th in AFCON history. [2]
