AFCON 2025 Kicks Off in Morocco with Star-Studded Opening Ceremony

The 2025 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations commenced in grand style on Sunday, December 21, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, Morocco. The opening ceremony featured electrifying performances by international music sensations, including French Montana, Davido, L’Artiste, and Jaylann, captivating a global audience and setting the tone for Africa’s premier football tournament.

Presided over by Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, the event was graced by prominent dignitaries such as CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, FIFA President Gianni Infantino, and Comoros President Azali Assoumani. A crowd of 60,180 spectators filled the stadium, witnessing a blend of traditional Moroccan culture and contemporary African music that highlighted the continent’s rich heritage.

The ceremony’s highlight, titled “Le Show,” showcased a fusion of music, light, and movement, with performances that resonated with audiences worldwide. Following the festivities, host nation Morocco secured a 2-0 victory over Comoros in the tournament’s opening match, thanks to goals from Brahim Diaz and Ayoub El Kaabi.

The 35th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations promises a month-long celebration of football, culture, and unity, with matches scheduled across various Moroccan cities until the final on January 18, 2026.
