Nigerian international Chidozie Awaziem delivered a roller-coaster performance as FC Nantes salvaged a 1-1 draw against FC Lorient in a dramatic Ligue 1 clash on November 23, 2025, at Stade de la Beaujoire.
Awaziem went from heartbreak to heroics in a span of 45 minutes—first mistakenly putting the ball into his own net in first-half stoppage time (45+1), then rising to the occasion with a thumping header in the 90+1 minute to redeem himself and secure a vital point for the home side.
His equalizer, powered home from a pinpoint cross by Camara, lifted Nantes out of the relegation zone, providing much-needed relief to under-pressure head coach Jocelyn Gourvennec. Despite a largely uninspired team display, Awaziem’s resilience stood out in a match that lacked attacking flair but delivered late drama.
The result, however, did little to ease the relegation worries for either side as they are stuck in 11 points apiece after 13 league games. Nantes controlled possession in the second half but struggled to threaten in the final third. Lorient, who had hoped to hold on to their slim lead, were left frustrated by the last-minute twist.
