Barcelona made a statement on their return to the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, sweeping aside Feyenoord 5-1 at Spotify Camp Nou as Raphinha scored twice and new signing Gabriel Jesus opened his Barça account.
Hansi Flick’s side produced another emphatic attacking display to begin their 2026/27 European campaign in commanding fashion, with Karim Adeyemi, Raphinha, Lamine Yamal and Gabriel Jesus all getting on the scoresheet alongside Raphinha’s brace.
The victory continued an extraordinary start to Barcelona’s competitive season. The Catalan giants have now scored 22 goals in their opening five matches, their most prolific five-game start since 1950/51 under Ferdinand Daucík. They have also scored at least five goals in four of those five matches, with their only exception being the 2-0 victory over Athletic Club.
Raphinha sets Barça rolling
Barcelona needed barely three minutes to break the deadlock. Raphinha collected the ball around the edge of the penalty area, created space with a superb piece of individual skill and calmly finished beyond Feyenoord goalkeeper Liam Ernst.
It was another landmark moment in what has been a sensational opening to the campaign for the Brazilian. Raphinha had already scored in each of Barcelona’s first four La Liga matches, and his goal against Feyenoord extended his scoring run to five consecutive competitive appearances. Barcelona had identified the feat as a potential record before the Champions League opener, as no Barça player had previously scored in each of the club’s first five games of a season across different competitions. The captain’s early strike immediately put Feyenoord under pressure.
Adeyemi doubles the advantage
Barcelona continued to dominate possession and territory before doubling their lead in the 22nd minute. Karim Adeyemi received the ball in the final third, cut inside and unleashed a powerful right-footed effort beyond Ernst.
It was an impressive Champions League debut for the German forward and gave Barcelona a 2-0 advantage before half-time.
Barça could have added further goals before the interval, with Lamine Yamal going close and João Cancelo striking the post. At the other end, goalkeeper Joan García was called into action to prevent Feyenoord from reducing the deficit.
Raphinha strikes again
The Brazilian returned to the scoresheet shortly after the restart. Pedri found Raphinha’s run through the middle with a perfectly weighted pass, allowing the forward to race towards goal before calmly finishing with his left foot.
The second goal completed Raphinha’s brace and strengthened his remarkable start to the campaign. His seven goals in five matches underline his importance to Flick’s attacking system and his growing influence as Barcelona captain.
Yamal adds a fourth
With Barcelona firmly in control, Lamine Yamal added a fourth in the 77th minute.
After Dani Olmo won a free-kick on the edge of the Feyenoord penalty area, Yamal stepped forward and produced a composed finish through the defensive wall. The teenager’s contribution added another layer to an increasingly dominant Barcelona performance.
UEFA had already highlighted Yamal ahead of the match, noting that the forward was closing in on Kylian Mbappé’s record for Champions League goals scored by a player aged 20 or younger.
Feyenoord pull one back before Jesus responds
Feyenoord eventually found a consolation goal in the 82nd minute when Sem Steijn converted at the far post. But Barcelona immediately restored their four-goal advantage. Substitute Gabriel Jesus, who had only just entered the field, needed barely three minutes to make an impact.
Yamal delivered a curling cross into the area and Jesus got the decisive touch to guide the ball beyond Ernst and make it 5-1. The goal was particularly significant for the Brazilian, marking his first goal for Barcelona since joining the Catalan club. Barcelona confirmed after the match that Jesus had been on the pitch for only a few minutes before opening his account.
Another five-goal statement from Flick’s Barcelona
The result continues an extraordinary attacking sequence for Barcelona.
Their opening five competitive results of the 2026/27 campaign have produced:
- 5-0 vs Valencia
- 5-2 vs Rayo Vallecano
- 2-0 vs Athletic Club
- 5-0 vs Elche
- 5-1 vs Feyenoord
That makes 22 goals in five matches, an attacking return Barcelona have not achieved at this stage of a season since 1950/51.
For Flick, it is further evidence that his side have begun the new campaign with an exceptional attacking rhythm.
For Raphinha, it was another starring performance from a forward who has become one of the defining figures of Barcelona’s early-season surge.
For Adeyemi and Jesus, meanwhile, their first Champions League goals for the club provided an ideal introduction to European football in Barcelona colours.
And for the Catalan giants, the message from their opening European night was emphatic:
