Manchester United forward Bryan Mbeumo has acknowledged that Aston Villa will pose a difficult challenge when the two sides meet in the Premier League on Sunday, November 8, at Old Trafford.
The Cameroon international expects a fiercely contested encounter, describing Unai Emery’s team as a consistently strong Premier League side with quality players capable of causing problems for any opponent.
Speaking in an interview published by Manchester United, Mbeumo said: “They’re obviously a very difficult team to play. Ever since I’ve been in the Premier League, they’ve always been like a very good side in the league so obviously we’re expecting a very tough match.
“But these matches are also the better ones to play and we are really happy to get the challenge. They have very good players. They are a very good team. We know what they can do. So it’s going to be on us to be ready for that.”
The comments underline United’s awareness of the threat Villa will bring, particularly given their recent performances and ability to compete against some of the Premier League’s strongest teams.
United seeking a response after difficult league run
Mbeumo’s comments come at a crucial moment for Manchester United, who are desperate to turn their fortunes around in the Premier League before the November international break.
United have gone seven consecutive Premier League matches without a victory, recording four draws and three defeats. Their dramatic 3-2 Champions League comeback against Roma, however, offered some encouragement.
United came from two goals down to secure the victory, with Matheus Cunha scoring twice after Bruno Fernandes had reduced the deficit. Mbeumo also struck both goalposts during the encounter. Opta Analyst +1
Aston Villa arrive with reasons for confidence
Villa will not travel to Old Trafford without ambition. Unai Emery’s side have enjoyed an improvement in league form, recording three victories and two draws across their previous five Premier League matches ahead of the fixture.
They also defeated Manchester City 2-1, handing Pep Guardiola’s side their first domestic defeat of the campaign.
However, Villa are coming off a 3-0 Champions League defeat against Barcelona and will be eager to respond positively. Opta Analyst +1
Emery has also acknowledged the difficulty of playing at Old Trafford, revealing that he has yet to win there during his time in charge of Aston Villa.
The Spanish manager described the fixture as a major challenge and stressed that his players must deliver their best individual and collective performances.
