CAF Champions League Quarter-Finals: Berkane and Al Hilal Share Spoils as FAR, Pyramids Draw

RS Berkane and Al‑Hilal Omdurman played out a tense 1–1 draw in the first leg of their CAF Champions League quarter-final, while AS FAR Rabat and Pyramids FC also settled for the same scoreline in another tightly contested tie.

Al-Hilal made a bright start against Berkane and stunned the Moroccan side when Abdel Raouf struck in the 13th minute, giving the Sudanese giants an early advantage.

The visitors held firm for most of the encounter, frustrating Berkane’s attacking efforts and appearing set to carry a narrow lead into the second leg.

However, Berkane were handed a lifeline deep into stoppage time when the referee awarded a penalty. Mounir Chouiar stepped up and calmly converted in the 99th minute, salvaging a crucial draw for the Moroccan club and keeping the tie wide open ahead of the return leg.

In Rabat, AS FAR began strongly against Egyptian side Pyramids and were rewarded with an early breakthrough.

Ahmed Hammoudan fired the hosts ahead in the 8th minute, finishing a swift attacking move that put the Moroccan champions in control of the first half.

Pyramids responded after the restart and eventually found the equaliser through Mahmoud Zalaka, whose 52nd-minute strike restored parity and handed the Egyptian side a valuable away result.

Both teams pushed for a winner in the closing stages but could not break the deadlock, leaving the quarter-final tie delicately poised ahead of the second leg.

With both quarter-final first legs ending in draws, the battle for places in the CAF Champions League semi-finals remains finely balanced.

Berkane will travel to Sudan to face Al-Hilal in the decisive return leg, while Pyramids will welcome FAR to Cairo knowing home advantage could prove decisive.
