Moroccan giants RS Berkane pulled off a dramatic comeback to defeat Nigeria’s Rivers United 2-1 in a thrilling *CAF Confederation Cup* group stage clash on matchday two.
Despite trailing for most of the encounter in Uyo, the 2020 champions showed grit and experience to snatch all three points in stoppage time.
Rivers United took the lead in the 38th minute following an unfortunate own goal by Mamadou Lamine Camara, Berkane’s Senegalese defender. The hosts held onto their slender advantage with a solid defensive display through regulation time.
However, Berkane remained composed and pushed forward with urgency in the seven minutes of added time. Their persistence paid off in the 97th minute when Youness El Kaabi capitalized on a loose ball following a set-piece to level the score.
Just moments later, Berkane completed the turnaround in stunning fashion. A rebound from a powerful effort struck the post, and Mounir Chouiar reacted quickest to slot home the winner, silencing the home crowd.
