CAF FIFA WORLD CUP PLAY-OFFS: CAMEROON SQUAD DRAMA DEEPENS

Tensions are escalating between Cameroon’s head coach, Marc Brys, and the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) just days before the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs. The federation has refused to release the squad list, citing Brys’ refusal to travel to Yaoundé to announce it officially. Brys, however, insists he’s already in Morocco, preparing for the playoffs, and sees no need to fly to Cameroon.

The dispute has created uncertainty around the Indomitable Lions’ buildup to the playoffs, with concerns about disrupted planning and communication with players. Nigeria, Gabon, and DR Congo have unveiled their squads, but Cameroon’s remains unreleased due to the federation-coach standoff. FECAFOOT is considering suspending Marc Brys for abandoning his post.

Cameroon will face DR Congo in the semi-final on November 13 in Morocco. The team has a strong squad with experienced players like Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Vincent Aboubakar, but the internal conflict may impact their performance. To qualify for the World Cup, Cameroon needs to win at least three matches (CAF semi-final, CAF final, and FIFA final). If unseeded at the FIFA play-off, they would need four wins in total.

The team’s strong attacking and defensive record in the qualifiers (17 goals scored, 5 conceded) could be an advantage. However, team cohesion and preparation will be crucial in the playoffs, and the ability to overcome internal conflicts and focus on the game will be vital.
