CAF Launches Comprehensive Anti-Doping Measures Ahead of AFCON 2025

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has implemented strict anti-doping protocols for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, including post-match testing of two players per team, selected randomly or targeted by officers. Testing extends beyond stadiums to hotels, training grounds, and other locations throughout the tournament, enforcing a zero-tolerance policy on performance-enhancing drugs. Players selected after matches must report immediately to testing areas with chaperones and team officials present.

AFCON 2025 starts December 21, 2025, and runs to January 18, 2026, across six Moroccan host cities: Agadir, Casablanca, Fez, Marrakech, Rabat, and Tangier. These venues feature multiple stadiums, such as Mohammed V Complex in Casablanca and Grand Stade d’Agadir. CAF and the Local Organizing Committee outlined regulations in a briefing with participating teams, covering anti-doping, medical services, and logistics like squad sizes up to 28 players and early arrivals.

CAF requires stadiums to equip with cardiac monitors, oxygen supplies, stretchers, defibrillators, and ambulances for player safety. Medical teams, clinics, and monitoring systems will operate at airports, hotels, and stadiums, with ground and air ambulances positioned across host cities. These steps ensure comprehensive health protection during the tournament.[
