The Court of Arbitration for Sport has officially confirmed receipt of an appeal from the Senegalese Football Federation challenging the decision to strip Senegal of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title.
The appeal, formally registered on March 25, 2026, seeks to overturn the ruling by the Confederation of African Football and reinstate Senegal as rightful champions of the tournament.
According to CAS, the FSF is requesting that the CAF decision be set aside and that Senegal be officially declared winners of AFCON 2025, a move that sets the stage for one of the most significant legal battles in African football history.
In addition, the federation has requested an immediate suspension of the deadline to submit its full appeal brief, pending the release of the complete grounds for CAF’s original decision.
CAS confirmed that an Arbitral Panel will now be constituted to hear the case. Once appointed, the panel will establish a procedural timetable guiding submissions, hearings and deliberations.
The process is expected to determine whether CAF’s decision was legally sound, due process was followed and whether the original match result can be reinstated.
