Nigerian international striker Chioma Okafor has completed a major career move, signing a three-year guaranteed contract with North Carolina Courage of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), the club announced on Wednesday. The deal runs through the 2028 season, with an optional club extension for 2029.
Okafor, 23, joins the Courage with a strong résumé and growing international reputation. She was a member of the Super Falcons squad that won the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Nigeria’s record-extending 10th continental title.
Her rise to the professional stage follows a stellar collegiate career at the University of Connecticut (UConn), where she earned All-Conference honors and left her mark as a lethal finisher. Across four NCAA seasons, Okafor registered 30 goals and 5 assists in 57 appearances. known for her strength, technical ability, and clutch performances.
Speaking after the announcement, North Carolina Courage sporting director hailed Okafor as “a dynamic forward with the hunger, physicality, and pedigree to thrive in the NWSL.”
Her signing adds attacking depth to a Courage side looking to return to championship contention. Okafor is expected to join the team for pre-season training ahead of the 2026 NWSL campaign.
