Colombia Unveils World-Class High-Performance Centre in Barranquilla After $10m Investment

By Yomi Kuku, Toronto Canada

The Colombia national football team has officially inaugurated a state-of-the-art accommodation and high-performance training centre in Barranquilla, marking a major milestone in the country’s football development.

The new complex, described as a “source of pride” for Colombian football, features a 48-room hotel, integrated training pitches, gym facilities, restaurant services, and a fully equipped medical and recovery area designed to optimise player performance.

The facility was completed in an impressive 14-month period at a total cost of approximately $10 million, with South American football’s governing body CONMEBOL contributing $5 million—more than half of the total investment.

Constructed across nearly 4,000 square metres in the Alameda del Río sector of Barranquilla, the two-storey building offers capacity for 69 guests and includes specialised recovery areas such as massage cabins, physiotherapy zones, and advanced treatment rooms.

Colombian Football Federation president Ramón Jesurún described the project as the fulfilment of a long-term vision.

“Today we fulfil a dream. This Accommodation Centre is a project our footballers deserve,” Jesurún said during the inauguration ceremony.

The facility will serve every Colombian national team category, including men’s, women’s, and youth squads, forming a centralised base for training, preparation, and recovery.

The complex is fully integrated with existing training infrastructure, ensuring players have immediate access to pitches, medical care, and performance analysis tools in one location.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who attended the inauguration alongside top football officials, praised the facility’s significance.

> “This centre will give young boys and girls, as well as our senior national teams, the opportunity to train and focus entirely on football,” Infantino said.

The new high-performance hub is part of Colombia’s broader strategy to strengthen its football infrastructure, improve athlete development, and maintain its competitive edge internationally.

Beyond serving as accommodation, the centre is expected to enhance team preparation, reduce reliance on external hotels, and provide a permanent home for Colombia’s national teams.

With world-class facilities now in place, Colombia has taken a decisive step toward building a sustainable football future—one designed to support excellence across generations.
