Nigerian forwards Salim Fago and Gift Orban delivered decisive performances for their respective clubs on Sunday, contributing to important league victories in the Czech Republic and Italy.
Salim Fago Lawal opened the scoring as FC Viktoria Plzeň cruised to a commanding 3–0 away win over FC Hradec Králové in the Czech top flight.
The Super Eagles striker ended a brief goal drought with a well-taken strike in the 44th minute, finishing a swift counterattack with a powerful right-footed effort that beat the goalkeeper and gave Plzeň the breakthrough just before halftime.
His opener set the tone for a dominant performance by the visitors, who went on to add two more goals after the break to seal an emphatic victory. The result strengthened Viktoria Plzeň’s position near the top end of the league standings as they continued their push in the Czech title race.
Elsewhere in Italy, Gift Orban played a crucial role as Hellas Verona F.C. recorded a dramatic 2–1 comeback victory away to Bologna F.C. 1909 in Serie A.
Bologna took the lead shortly after halftime through Jonathan Rowe, but Verona responded quickly with Martin Frese leveling the score in the 53rd minute. The visitors completed the turnaround soon after when Kieron Bowie converted from close range following a fast-break assist from Orban.
The victory ended Verona’s lengthy winless run in the league and provided a major boost to their fight to move away from the relegation zone.
For Orban, the assist continued a productive campaign in Italy, with the Nigerian striker maintaining impressive attacking numbers this season while playing a key role in Verona’s push for survival in the Italian top flight.
