Ferencváros stun AC Milan at San Siro as Lenny Joseph scores twice in 2–0 Europa League victory

Haitian striker Lenny Joseph scored twice as Ferencváros produced a memorable performance to defeat AC Milan 2–0 at San Siro on Thursday night, November 5, 2026, and maintain their perfect record in the UEFA Europa League league phase.

Ferencváros delivered a major European statement in Milan, overcoming the Italian giants with two second-half goals from Joseph. Despite being reduced to ten men late in the match, the Hungarian visitors defended their advantage to secure all three points.

The result gave Ferencváros four victories from four league-phase matches, taking their tally to 12 points. Milan, meanwhile, suffered their third defeat in four European fixtures and remained on three points.

Ferencváros began with greater attacking purpose and nearly took the lead inside the opening four minutes.

Kristoffer Zachariassen found Joseph with a well-timed pass, but the striker’s initial attempt was blocked by Koni De Winter. Joseph recovered the ball and managed another effort, which was directed straight at Milan goalkeeper Lorenzo Torriani.

The visitors continued to exploit Milan’s difficulties playing out from the back. Zachariassen tested Torriani again in the 17th minute, while Joseph threatened after another loose pass from the home side.

Milan struggled to establish control and were repeatedly caught in possession. Ardon Jashari’s misplaced pass under pressure presented Joseph with another opportunity, but Torriani came off his line to narrow the angle and make the save.

The home side’s first notable attacking opportunity arrived in the 39th minute. Adrien Rabiot’s knockdown found Alphadjo Cissé inside the penalty area, but the youngster sent his left-footed effort over the crossbar.

Joseph remained Ferencváros’ biggest threat. In the closing stages of the first half, he found space inside the box and forced another save from Torriani, who also dealt with a further effort shortly before the interval.

Despite Milan having the home advantage, Ferencváros looked the more dangerous side. The teams went into half-time level at 0–0.

Half-time changes fail to prevent Milan’s collapse

Milan manager Ruben Amorim responded by making three substitutions at the break.

Mario Gila, Diego Moreira and Christian Pulisic entered the match, replacing Sankhoun Diawara, Yunus Musah and Cissé.

The changes initially appeared to give Milan more attacking energy. Omari Hutchinson fired into the side netting in the 48th minute, while Gonçalo Ramos later drove into the penalty area before seeing his effort deflected.

However, the hosts’ improved start did not last.52nd minute: Joseph punishes Torriani’s mistake Ferencváros broke the deadlock seven minutes after the restart. A back pass from De Winter put Torriani under pressure inside his own penalty area. Zachariassen pressed the young goalkeeper aggressively and capitalised on his heavy first touch to win possession.

The ball fell to Joseph, who calmly finished into the unguarded net to give the Hungarian side a 1–0 lead. It was a costly defensive error for Milan, who had worked hard to keep the visitors out during the first half. The Rossoneri immediately attempted to respond. Ramos played Hutchinson through on the left, but the winger’s low effort rolled narrowly beyond the far post.

Milan’s hopes of recovering suffered another setback in the 66th minute. Following a ricochet in midfield, Ferencváros launched a dangerous counterattack. Zachariassen advanced into space and created a two-on-one situation before delivering the ball to Joseph. The Haitian forward made no mistake, slotting home to complete his brace and put Ferencváros 2–0 ahead.

The goal was a reward for Joseph’s persistent movement and the visitors’ ability to punish Milan’s defensive mistakes. Luka Modrić had entered the match in the 63rd minute, replacing Jashari, but Milan still struggled to turn possession into clear opportunities.

Milan made another change in the 67th minute, introducing Francesco Camarda for Davide Bartesaghi. Camarda came close to reducing the deficit when he attempted to turn Moreira’s low cross towards goal, but he could not direct his effort on target.

At the other end, Torriani denied Zachariassen after a quickly taken free-kick, preventing Ferencváros from extending their advantage. Milan continued to push forward, but their attacks lacked the precision needed to trouble the visitors consistently.

The closing stages became more complicated for Ferencváros when substitute Bamidele Yusuf was sent off in the 77th minute. Yusuf, who had replaced Joseph ten minutes earlier, caught Gila with an elbow in an off-the-ball incident. Following a VAR review, the referee showed him a straight red card.

With a numerical advantage, Milan attempted to mount a late comeback. Hutchinson forced Dénes Dibusz into a save with an effort through a crowd of players, while Moreira fired over from distance in the 83rd minute. Ferencváros remained disciplined and continued to protect their penalty area.

The visitors also threatened to score a third in stoppage time. Another loose pass towards Torriani allowed substitute Daniel Madarász to collect possession and round the goalkeeper, but his attempt struck the side netting. Ádám Nagy was booked in the 90th minute as Ferencváros saw out the remaining moments.
