An emotional moment unfolded before the UEFA Champions League meeting between Galatasaray S.K. and Liverpool F.C. when supporters of the Turkish club unveiled a powerful tribute to Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen and his late mother.

Ahead of kick-off at RAMS Park in Istanbul, thousands of Galatasaray fans displayed a large choreography and banner featuring Osimhen alongside an image of his mother, who died when he was very young. The message read: “We are a family, and family is everything.”

The gesture visibly moved the Super Eagles forward, who was seen fighting back tears as he looked toward the stands. Osimhen later walked over to the supporters to thank them for the tribute, acknowledging the powerful moment shared between player and fans.

Supporters from the club’s famed ultras group organised the display as a way of recognising both Osimhen’s performances and the personal struggles that shaped his journey to the top of world football. The choreography included imagery referencing his life story, including a portrait of his mother and depictions of the striker’s past and present.

Osimhen has often spoken publicly about the deep impact of losing his mother during childhood, describing it as a pain that has stayed with him throughout his life. The Nigerian forward grew up in difficult circumstances in Lagos before rising through the ranks of global football.

The emotional display highlighted the strong bond between the striker and the Galatasaray faithful, who have embraced him since his arrival in Istanbul. For many inside the stadium, the moment served as a reminder that football can sometimes be about far more than what happens on the pitch.
