The Ghana Football Association has appointed seasoned Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the Black Stars, entrusting him with the task of leading the nation to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The decision marks a clear statement of intent by the FA to prioritize structure, discipline, and experience as Ghana looks to re-establish itself among football’s elite. Queiroz, known for his tactical organization and defensive solidity, is expected to immediately oversee preparations for upcoming qualifiers.
The 71-year-old brings a wealth of experience, having managed top sides including Real Madrid and Manchester United—where he served as assistant to Alex Ferguson—as well as national teams such as Portugal national football team, Iran, Egypt, and Colombia.
His appointment comes at a critical time for Ghana, with the team seeking stability after inconsistent performances in recent competitions. The FA believes Queiroz’s tournament pedigree and structured approach will provide the foundation needed for a successful qualification campaign.
Ghana’s football authorities are expected to unveil further details regarding his technical team and long-term roadmap as preparations intensify for the global showpiece.
