Giwa Targets Strong NPFL Debut After Guiding Inter Lagos to Promotion

By Rasheed Adewuyi, New York

Head coach of Inter Lagos FC, Shakiru Giwa, has assured fans that the club is putting plans in place to make a strong impact in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) next season.

Giwa, who led Inter Lagos to a historic promotion to the 2026/27 NPFL after an impressive 2025/26 Nigeria National League (NNL) campaign, is now focused on preparing the team for life in the top flight.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with *Jersey Number 12* on Wednesday, the coach revealed he will push for quality additions to strengthen the squad ahead of pre-season preparations.

“I am a coach who demands a lot from my players,” he said. “With hard work, proper pre-season preparation, and committed players, I believe Inter Lagos will not disappoint when we begin life in the elite division.”

Giwa also stressed the importance of strong support from the club’s management, noting that backing his football philosophy and ensuring players’ salaries are paid promptly will be key to competing in what he described as a tough league—especially for a newly promoted side.

He thanked the fans for their unwavering support during the NNL campaign and urged them to remain steadfast as the team begins its NPFL journey in August 2026.

Inter Lagos is also among four teams set to feature in the 2026 NNL Super Playoffs, where winners from Conferences A, B, C, and D will compete to determine the overall league champion, having already secured promotion to the NPFL.
