Hansi Flick Could Quit Barcelona If Laporta Loses Presidential Election

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick is reportedly considering resigning from his managerial role at FC Barcelona at the end of the 2025–26 season if Joan Laporta is not re-elected as club president, according to Spanish newspaper Marca. The decision is said to hinge on the outcome of the presidential election scheduled for March 15, 2026, with Víctor Font emerging as Laporta’s main rival.

Flick, who took charge of Barcelona in 2024 and has led the team to significant success, including domestic titles, is reportedly comfortable with Laporta’s leadership and the structure around him, including key football operations. However, Marca suggests the German tactician may opt to step down if a change in club leadership signals a different strategic direction for Barcelona.

Under current circumstances, Flick’s future at the club appears closely tied to Laporta’s political fortunes. If Laporta secures re-election, Flick is understood to be open to continuing in his role beyond the current season and potentially renewing his contract. Conversely, should Font or another candidate win the presidency, Flick may reassess his position and choose to depart, even if he remains under contract until 2027.

The presidential election was formally launched following Laporta’s resignation as president to run for another term, as required under FC Barcelona’s statutes. Laporta’s tenure included navigating financial challenges and sporting projects, with Flick’s appointment considered part of the club’s broader competitive strategy. Interim leadership has since taken over pending the election outcome.

One source close to Font’s campaign indicated that the presidential hopeful would retain Flick as head coach and “offer him a compelling sporting project,” though Font also plans changes in other areas of football operations, such as replacing the current sporting director.

The possibility of Flick’s departure adds high stakes to the election process, not just for governance at the club but for its sporting continuity. Barcelona supporters and analysts have noted Flick’s positive impact on the team’s performance and tactical identity, while uncertainties around leadership shifts could shape transfer strategies and long-term planning.

Flick’s future — and whether he remains as coach beyond the 2025–26 season — is likely to be determined by March 15’s presidential vote, highlighting how deeply intertwined football decisions have become with internal club politics.
