Inter Miami CF secured their first-ever MLS Cup title with a 3–1 triumph over the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday at Chase Stadium, Fort Lauderdale. Lionel Messi played a pivotal role, assisting two crucial second-half goals that propelled Miami to victory.
The match commenced with an early advantage for Miami, as Vancouver’s Edier Ocampo inadvertently scored an own goal in the 8th minute following a cross from Messi. Vancouver responded in the 60th minute when Ali Ahmed capitalized on a defensive lapse to equalize. However, Miami regained the lead in the 71st minute through Rodrigo De Paul, who finished a precise pass from Messi. Tadeo Allende sealed the win in stoppage time, again assisted by Messi, ensuring a memorable conclusion to the match.
This victory marks a significant milestone for Inter Miami, a club founded in 2018, and adds to Messi’s illustrious career, bringing his total major trophies to 47. The win also highlights the successful integration of former Barcelona teammates Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, who, alongside Messi, have contributed significantly to the team’s achievements.
