Bayern Munich secured a vital 2–1 victory over Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu, with Luis Díaz and Harry Kane on target in a high-intensity encounter that leaves the tie finely poised.
Bayern took control late in the first half when Díaz broke the deadlock in the 41st minute, finishing calmly after beating the defensive line to stun the home crowd.
The visitors’ disciplined approach and sharp transitions ensured they went into halftime with a deserved advantage.
Just seconds after the restart, Kane extended Bayern’s lead, capitalizing on a swift attacking move to make it 2–0 and put the German side firmly in command.
Kylian Mbappé reignited hope for Madrid in the 74th minute, finishing from close range after sustained pressure to reduce the deficit.
The goal shifted momentum late in the game, with Madrid pushing forward in search of an equalizer.
Veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer delivered a standout performance, producing crucial saves to deny Madrid a comeback.
Speaking after the match, Neuer reflected on his longevity and continued impact:
> “I’m having fun with the team, at the club, with the coaching staff. It’s true that I’m 40, but I’m still here.”
“We’re in a good position. But it’s a one-goal lead, it can change really quick. We have to stay focused.”
Despite the defeat, Madrid believe the tie is far from over. Team coach Álvaro Arbeloa expressed confidence in the team’s chances:
“We have hope. Real Madrid can win at any stadium. It’s a shame we didn’t convert any of the chances we had.”
With Bayern holding a slender lead and Madrid still within striking distance, the stage is set for a decisive and potentially dramatic second leg.
