Manchester City Secure Carabao Cup with O’Reilly Double as Arsenal Come Up Short at Wembley

By Kazeem Ajibola Shoyebo

Manchester City lifted the Carabao Cup with a 2–0 victory over Arsenal in the final at Wembley Stadium, extending the north London side’s wait for major silverware and ending their hopes of a historic quadruple this season.

After a cagey first half that ended goalless, City seized control in the second period through a standout performance from 21‑year‑old full‑back Nico O’Reilly, who scored both goals in quick succession to secure the victory and the trophy.

Nico O’Reilly broke the deadlock, capitalising on a mistake by Arsenal goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga to head City into the lead. Just four minutes later, O’Reilly struck again, converting a cross from Matheus Nunes to double City’s advantage and all but seal the result.

City’s performance reflected both tactical patience and offensive precision. Despite Arsenal controlling portions of possession and mounting a handful of promising attacks, they were unable to convert their opportunities into goals. The Gunners’ struggles in the final third ultimately proved costly.

The win marked City’s ninth League Cup title and added another trophy to the decorated managerial CV of Pep Guardiola, who now holds the record for most Carabao Cup victories as a manager.

Arsenal, despite entering the final as Premier League leaders and one of Europe’s in‑form teams, were left to rue missed chances and defensive lapses as their quest for silverware continues.
