Moroccan Club Oujda Terminate Ndiaye Contract Amid AFCON Controversy

By Kazeem Ajibola Shoyebo

Moroccan side Union Islamique d’Oujda have terminated the contract of Senegalese midfielder Idrissa Ndiaye following an off-field controversy linked to the recent Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) ruling.

The club confirmed the player’s departure, although it did not publicly disclose the reasons behind the decision.

However, multiple reports indicate that the termination is connected to Ndiaye’s reaction to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeals Board verdict, which controversially stripped Senegal of the AFCON title and awarded it to Morocco.

According to those reports, the midfielder allegedly mocked the CAF decision on social media, a move that was viewed internally by the club as inappropriate and potentially damaging to its image.

The controversy stems from CAF’s decision to overturn the final result of the 2025 AFCON, ruling that Senegal forfeited the match after a walk-off protest, and awarding Morocco a 3–0 victory.

Ndiaye’s exit brings an abrupt end to his spell in Morocco, where he had joined with the aim of establishing himself in the squad. The development highlights the wider ripple effects of the AFCON ruling, which continues to generate reactions across clubs, players, and federations on the continent.

Neither Ndiaye nor the club has issued a detailed statement clarifying the full circumstances surrounding the termination.
