Nigerian international Wilfred Ndidi was on target for Beşiktaş as the Turkish side battled to a 2–2 draw against Crystal Palace in an entertaining UEFA Europa League encounter in Istanbul on Thursday, 22 October 2026.
The Super Eagles midfielder opened the scoring in first-half stoppage time, giving the home side a 1–0 advantage at the interval before Crystal Palace mounted a second-half comeback. Beşiktaş eventually recovered to secure a share of the points through Junior Olaitan’s 73rd-minute equaliser.
The fixture was part of Matchday 3 of the Europa League league phase. UEFA’s competition schedule confirms the matchday and date.
With the first half drawing to a close, Ndidi capitalised on an opportunity to put Beşiktaş ahead in the 45+2nd minute. The midfielder controlled a long pass from Salih Özcan before striking with his left foot from the left side of the penalty area, directing the ball into the far corner beyond the goalkeeper.
The goal gave Beşiktaş a valuable lead heading into the break and highlighted Ndidi’s ability to contribute in the attacking third in addition to his familiar midfield responsibilities.
The strike was also a significant European milestone for the Nigerian, who has built his reputation around defensive discipline, ball-winning ability and physical presence in midfield.
Crystal Palace turn the game around
Crystal Palace responded strongly after the restart, with Spanish winger Yeremy Pino drawing the visitors level in the 51st minute.
The goal was initially ruled out for offside, but a VAR review overturned the decision and awarded the equaliser.
The English side then moved in front four minutes later. Jean-Philippe Mateta took advantage of a defensive error, advancing into the penalty area before finishing emphatically to make it 2–1.
For a period, Beşiktaş faced the prospect of losing at home despite Ndidi’s first-half contribution.
Olaitan rescues a point
Beşiktaş found a response in the 73rd minute when substitute Junior Olaitan produced a low finish into the corner to restore parity at 2–2.
The contest became more complicated for the hosts when Ümit Akdağ was shown a straight red card in the 77th minute following a challenge on Jørgen Strand Larsen.
Despite being reduced to 10 men, Beşiktaş held on to the draw as Crystal Palace were unable to find a late winner.
