Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has insisted that Neymar can still feature at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite leaving the forward out of his latest squad due to fitness concerns.
The Brazilian Football Confederation confirmed Neymar’s omission from the squad for upcoming international friendlies, with Ancelotti making it clear the decision was based solely on physical condition rather than ability.
“He can participate in the World Cup if he is fully fit,” Ancelotti said, emphasizing that only players at peak condition will be selected.
The Italian coach added that Neymar was not included because he is not yet at full fitness, stressing the importance of selecting players performing at the highest level as Brazil finalise preparations for the tournament.
Neymar, Brazil’s all-time leading scorer, has struggled with injuries since suffering a serious knee injury in 2023 and has not consistently returned to top form, factors that continue to influence selection decisions.
Reacting to the snub, the 34-year-old forward admitted disappointment but maintained belief in his chances of making the final World Cup squad.
“I’m upset and sad about not being called up,” Neymar said, while reaffirming his commitment to recovery and performance.
He added that his focus remains on daily improvement, expressing confidence that he can still achieve his goal of representing Brazil on football’s biggest stage.
The latest omission highlights the growing uncertainty surrounding Neymar’s international future, even as Ancelotti continues to leave the door open for a return—provided the forward proves his fitness in the coming months.
Brazil are set to face top international opposition in their World Cup warm-up matches, as Ancelotti evaluates his squad ahead of naming a final list for the tournament.
