Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen is at Galatasaray S.K. for more than money, according to club vice-president Abdullah Kavukcu, who says the forward turned down a staggering offer from Saudi Arabia before committing to the Istanbul giants.
Speaking to the media, Kavukcu revealed that Osimhen rejected a massive proposal from Al‑Hilal SFC worth €50 million per year, a three-year deal totaling €150 million, insisting the striker chose Galatasaray because of the connection he has built with the club and its supporters.
“Different comments are constantly being made about Victor Osimhen,” Kavukcu said. “How many players like Osimhen are there in the world? We need to look at the figures of the players being compared.”
The Galatasaray executive dismissed speculation surrounding the striker’s wages and commitment, stressing that Osimhen’s decision to reject the Saudi offer speaks for itself.
“Osimhen rejected Al-Hilal’s offer of €50 million per year. He rejected a total contract of €150 million for three years,” Kavukcu said. “Would such a person refuse to play just because he isn’t getting paid?”
Kavukcu added that the striker’s bond with Galatasaray’s supporters played a decisive role in his decision to remain in Istanbul.
“If the Galatasaray fans weren’t like this, if there wasn’t so much love and support, Osimhen wouldn’t be here today,” he said, praising what he described as the unique backing the club’s players receive from the stands.
The Nigerian international, widely regarded as one of the most prolific strikers in world football, completed a permanent move to Galatasaray in 2025 after previously starring during a loan spell from SSC Napoli. His transfer reportedly cost around €75 million, making it the most expensive deal in Turkish football history.
Osimhen’s impact has been immediate. During his earlier loan season, the forward scored 37 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions, cementing his status as a fan favourite in Istanbul.
Kavukcu believes the striker’s commitment and performances will secure him a lasting legacy at the club.
“One thing is certain,” he said. “Osimhen will take his place in Galatasaray history.”
