“Racism Has No One Face”: Evra Calls for Education and Understanding in Powerful Message

By Kazeem Ajibola Shoyebo

Patrice Evra has delivered a powerful message on racism, stressing the need for education and understanding while insisting that discrimination is not limited to any one race or group.

Speaking in a recent interview reported by The Athletic, the former France and Manchester United captain highlighted his ongoing efforts to engage young people in conversations about racism and its roots.

Evra emphasized that racism is a learned behavior, not something people are born with.

“I’m involved in a lot of education and meeting kids, because I want to understand where it comes from. You don’t wake up as a racist person,” he said.

His remarks reflect a broader call for early education and dialogue as tools to combat discrimination in society and sport.

In a candid and thought-provoking statement, Evra rejected the idea that racism is confined to a single group, stressing its universal nature.

“It also goes both ways. You can be Asian and racist. You can be Black and racist. You can be white and racist. It’s not about one side.”

The comments underline his belief that tackling racism requires collective responsibility rather than focusing on one perspective.

Evra’s stance is shaped by personal experience, having faced racial abuse during his playing career across Europe. He has consistently used his platform since retirement to advocate for change, education, and open conversations around discrimination.

### **Call for Change Through Education**

The former defender’s message aligns with growing efforts within football to address racism through awareness campaigns, stricter sanctions, and grassroots education initiatives.

For Evra, however, the solution goes deeper than punishment—it lies in understanding, dialogue, and teaching future generations.

### **Beyond Football**

As football continues to confront issues of discrimination, Evra’s words serve as a reminder that racism is a societal issue that extends beyond the pitch.

His message is clear: change begins with education, and responsibility lies with everyone.
