RB Leipzig’s recent winter signing Suleman Sani has suffered a significant ankle ligament injury in training and will be sidelined for an extended period, the club has confirmed. The 19-year-old Nigerian winger, who only joined the Bundesliga side from AS Trenčín earlier this month, sustained the injury when his foot got caught in the turf during a shooting drill, forcing him out of action before he could make his competitive debut for the club.
RB Leipzig head coach Ole Werner revealed that Sani is expected to be unavailable for approximately four to six weeks, during which time he will undergo treatment and rehabilitation before a gradual return to training. Neither surgery nor a longer-term intervention is currently planned, according to club sources, but the setback comes at an unfortunate moment for the young attacker as he adapts to his new team.
The news is a blow to the club’s plans for the remainder of the winter-season campaign, as Sani had been earmarked for gradual integration into the first-team setup.
