Rice Credits Gyökeres and Madueke for Arsenal’s Late Equaliser Against Bayern

Declan Rice has praised Viktor Gyökeres and Noni Madueke for their roles in Arsenal’s late equaliser against Bayern Munich, revealing how quick passing combinations and intelligent movement created the opportunity for his decisive finish.

Rice struck in the 82nd minute to secure a 2–2 draw for Arsenal against Bayern in the UEFA Champions League, rewarding a late attacking move that involved both substitutes.

Speaking to TNT Sports after the match, the England international highlighted Gyökeres’ growing influence off the bench and credited the Swedish striker with making the runs that helped unlock Bayern’s defence.

“Viktor Gyökeres has been making such an impact coming off the bench. He made some great runs tonight and he set me up for the goal,” Rice said.

The midfielder also explained the tactical demands of facing Bayern, noting that their man-to-man pressing across the pitch required Arsenal’s players to remain alert to spaces opening up during attacking transitions.

“When you play against Bayern, a team that go man-to-man over the whole pitch, you have to apply certain principles and concepts. You’re constantly thinking about where you can move into the space,” he added.

Rice described the decisive move as a product of quick, one-touch combinations and continued forward movement, with Madueke and Gyökeres helping him create the opening before he finished.

“For the goal, Noni Madueke’s one-touch set, Gyökeres’ one-touch set, I kept running. Them little movements get you through on goal — I was so happy to score,” he said.

The equaliser underlined the importance of Arsenal’s attacking depth, with the substitutes contributing directly to a result that prevented Bayern from claiming victory at home.

For Rice, the goal was not simply about finishing the move but also about recognising the spaces created by his teammates’ quick decisions and movement — details that proved decisive against one of Europe’s most demanding opponents.
