Mohamed Salah will leave Liverpool FC as a free agent this summer after reaching a mutual agreement with the club, bringing an end to one of the most iconic eras in Anfield history.
Despite having a contract running until 2027, Liverpool have agreed not to demand a transfer fee, respecting Salah’s desire for a new challenge in what sources describe as a “gentlemen’s agreement” — a gesture reserved for club legends.
Salah confirmed his departure in a heartfelt message to supporters, announcing that the decision to leave has already been made.
“Unfortunately the day has come. This is the first part of my farewell. I’ll be leaving Liverpool, it’s decided.”
Reflecting on his journey, the Egyptian forward spoke of a deep emotional bond with the club and its supporters.
“I never imagined this club, this city, this people would become part of my life. Liverpool is not just a football club, it’s a passion, it’s a history, it’s a spirit.”
Since arriving at Liverpool, Salah has become one of the club’s greatest-ever players, playing a central role in a period of sustained success that included major domestic and European trophies.
“We won the most important trophies. We fought together through the hardest times of our lives,” he said.
“I want to thank everyone who was part of this throughout my time at Liverpool, especially teammates and the fans.”
His impact at Anfield extends beyond goals, with his consistency, professionalism and influence helping define a golden era under Jürgen Klopp.
Liverpool’s decision not to demand a transfer fee reflects both Salah’s stature and his contribution to the club. The arrangement mirrors past internal agreements where long-serving figures were allowed to leave on their own terms.
Salah reserved his most emotional words for the fans, acknowledging their support throughout his career.
“I don’t have enough words… the support you showed me — in the best time of my career and the toughest times — is something I will never forget.”
“Leaving is never easy as you gave me the best time of my life. I’ll always be one of you. This club will always be my home.”
He ended with a message that resonates deeply with Liverpool’s identity:
“Because of all of you, I will never walk alone.”
Salah’s departure marks the end of a remarkable chapter defined by goals, trophies and unforgettable moments.
