Salim Fago Lawal Strikes First for Plzeň in 2-1 Czech League Triumph

Super Eagles forward Salim Fago Lawal marked his maiden goal for Viktoria Plzeň with a stylish volley, securing a vital 2-1 away win against SK Sigma Olomouc. The opener in the 17th minute set the tone for Plzeň’s comeback in the Czech First League clash.

All goals came in the first half: Lawal opened the scoring from Pavel Hrošovský’s corner kick after a headed flick-on. Sigma equalized through new signing Danijel Šturm’s deflected strike from distance (22′), but Dávid Krčík restored Plzeň’s lead just before halftime (45′).

Plzeň coach Martin Hýský praised Lawal’s runs, pressing, hold-up play, and versatility as a No. 9 or wide forward in tough conditions. The 23-year-old, fresh from Nigeria’s 2025 AFCON bronze, impressed in his third league outing.

The win marked Plzeň’s fourth straight victory, lifting them to third in the incomplete table, two points ahead of Jablonec. Sigma Olomouc slipped to eighth after their only win in seven games.
