Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze delivered a standout performance as AC Milan came from behind twice to defeat Manchester United 4-2 in the Super Mecz at Tarczyński Arena in Wrocław on Saturday.
Chukwueze scored Milan’s first equaliser and provided assists for Alphadjo Cissé and Gonçalo Ramos as Rúben Amorim’s side overturned an early deficit and secured victory in their final pre-season fixture.
The result brought Milan their first victory of the summer and ended their pre-season campaign on a positive note, with the Italian club describing the performance as an encouraging response to their previous defeat by Chelsea.
The match, billed as the Super Mecz, was played at Tarczyński Arena in Wrocław as part of both clubs’ final preparations for the 2026/27 season. The event organisers had promoted the meeting as a major international football spectacle, with the stadium listed at a capacity of 42,000.
Chukwueze started in an unfamiliar but increasingly significant role on the right side of Milan’s 3-4-2-1 formation, effectively operating as a wing-back. Milan’s official team sheet confirms his position in the starting XI, while his performance demonstrated that the tactical experiment did little to diminish his attacking influence.
Manchester United made the faster start, taking the lead after only two minutes when Harry Maguire headed home from Bruno Fernandes’ corner.
Milan responded with an aggressive high press, and their pressure eventually produced the equaliser.
In the 37th minute, Jashari won possession high up the pitch before Gonçalo Ramos supplied the final pass for Chukwueze, who finished into an empty net to make it 1-1.
United then had an opportunity to regain the lead before half-time when they were awarded a penalty, but goalkeeper Lorenzo Torriani denied Fernandes from the spot.
The hosts’ momentum was briefly interrupted early in the second half when Patrick Dorgu restored United’s advantage in the 51st minute after Milan lost possession during the build-up.
But Chukwueze again proved decisive. Six minutes later, the Nigerian supplied the assist for Alphadjo Cissé, who turned home Chukwueze’s delivery to bring Milan level at 2-2.
The Nigerian then completed his remarkable attacking contribution in the 68th minute, delivering another pinpoint cross for Gonçalo Ramos, who headed Milan into a 3-2 lead.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek subsequently completed the comeback three minutes later, racing onto a pass from Ramos to put Milan 4-2 ahead.
For Chukwueze, the performance could prove particularly important ahead of the new Serie A campaign.
The Nigerian returned to Milan after spending the previous season on loan at Fulham, and new manager Rúben Amorim has been experimenting with him in a wider, deeper role during pre-season. Reports from Milan’s build-up to the campaign had identified the right-wing-back position as one of the tactical experiments being considered for the Nigerian.
His performance against United provided perhaps the strongest evidence yet that Chukwueze can influence games even when deployed away from his traditional attacking-wing position.
