Moses Simon is on the verge of joining Nigeria’s exclusive centurion club, with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) set to honour the winger if he makes his 100th appearance for the Super Eagles against Madagascar on Friday.
Simon, who has become one of Nigeria’s most experienced and consistent performers over the past decade, currently has 99 senior international appearances to his name and could reach the landmark in the Super Eagles’ opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture in Uyo.
The Nantes winger made his Nigeria debut in March 2015 against Uganda in an international friendly and has since established himself as a regular presence in the national team.
His 99 appearances have included 64 competitive matches and 35 friendlies, while his international record also includes 12 goals. He has featured 23 times at the Africa Cup of Nations and made 22 appearances in FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.
According to the NFF, Simon has recorded 49 victories, 30 draws and 20 defeats in his 99 appearances for Nigeria. The federation has indicated that a special recognition awaits the winger should he feature against Madagascar and complete his journey to 100 caps.
NFF Acting General Secretary, Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme, praised Simon’s contribution to the national team, describing him as a dedicated servant of Nigerian football and highlighting his commitment to the country.
“I can testify that Moses Simon is an incredible player and a wonderful human being,” Ikpeme said, while describing the winger as “a patriot to the core.”
Simon has been part of several important moments in the Super Eagles over the past decade, including Nigeria’s 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
His potential 100th appearance would come against Madagascar as Nigeria begin their quest for a place at the 2027 AFCON, adding another significant chapter to a national-team career that began more than 11 years ago.
However, the milestone will depend on Simon featuring in the Group L encounter at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
Should he take to the pitch, the 30-year-old will become the latest Super Eagles player to reach the coveted 100-cap mark, further cementing his place among Nigeria’s most-capped internationals.
