Singida Black Stars SC have cleared goalkeeper Amas Obasogie of match-fixing allegations following an internal investigation and have lifted his three-month suspension, the club’s management announced.
Concerns had emerged among the club’s management, supporters and stakeholders after a series of errors in recent matches, including fixtures against Flambeau du Centre in the CAF Confederation Cup and league games against Pamba Jiji FC and Namungo FC in the NBC Premier League.
In response to the concerns, Singida Black Stars’ management, through the club’s disciplinary committee, launched a preliminary investigation into reports suggesting suspicious play involving Obasogie.
Following the inquiry—which included the player’s defense and a statement from the club’s general manager—the club concluded that there was no evidence of match manipulation. According to the findings, the incidents that triggered the concerns were determined to be technical errors that occurred during matches.
Despite being cleared of wrongdoing, Obasogie acknowledged the situation and issued an apology for the circumstances that led to the speculation. The Nigerian goalkeeper also pledged to address the shortcomings highlighted and improve his performances in order to regain the trust of supporters and stakeholders.
Based on the outcome of the investigation, the club announced that it had reversed its earlier decision to suspend the player for three months. Obasogie has now been reinstated and will continue his duties with the team.
The announcement was confirmed in an official statement signed by the club’s Chief Executive Officer, Jonathan Kassano.
