Slot Admits Osimhen Injury Shifted Tie as Liverpool Hit Galatasaray for Four at Anfield

By Kazeem Ajibola Shoyebo

Arne Slot has admitted that the injury to Victor Osimhen played a key role in Liverpool FC’s commanding 4–0 victory over Galatasaray, a result that sealed a 4–1 aggregate win and progression to the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.

Speaking after the match at Anfield, Slot acknowledged the impact of Osimhen’s early exit on the flow of the game.

“Osimhen is an incredible player for them… yeah, the injury worked for us,” Slot said.

Galatasaray started brightly with Osimhen leading the line, but the Nigerian striker was forced off late in the first half with an arm injury, disrupting the visitors’ attacking rhythm.

“When you look at the first 10 minutes and how the team played with him, I thought he would play the full 90 because the rest of the team plays so well off him,” Slot added. Y

After weathering Galatasaray’s early pressure, Liverpool seized control and delivered a ruthless attacking performance.

Dominik Szoboszlai opened the scoring in the first half to level the tie on aggregate. Hugo Ekitike doubled the lead early in the second half, Ryan Gravenberch added a third with a composed finish while Mohamed Salah sealed the rout late on, completing the 4–0 scoreline.

The performance saw Liverpool overturn a first-leg deficit and dominate the Turkish side across all departments.
