Snowfall Forces NSL Semi-Final Postponement in Toronto

Reported live from Toronto, Canada by Yomi Kuku

The second-leg playoff match between AFC Toronto and Montreal Roses in the National Super League (NSL) was postponed on Sunday due to heavy snowfall in Toronto, Ontario.

Snowfall measuring between 5 to 10 centimeters hit the region earlier in the day, making pitch conditions at York Lions Stadium unplayable and creating hazardous driving conditions for fans and teams. It marks Toronto’s first snowfall of the winter season.

AFC Toronto carried a 2-0 advantage from the first leg in Montreal and had hoped to secure a place in the NSL Final against Vancouver Rise, who advanced after defeating Ottawa Rapids in a dramatic penalty shootout on Saturday.

In an official statement, AFC Toronto announced that the match has been rescheduled for Monday at 6:00 PM ET at the same venue. The club also confirmed that all tickets issued for Sunday remain valid for the new matchday.

“We deeply appreciate the dedication of our supporters who showed up despite the harsh weather,” the club said. “Your commitment is the heartbeat of this team, and we look forward to seeing you again on Monday.”

This semi-final is part of the inaugural season of the National Super League, Canada’s first professional women’s soccer league. AFC Toronto topped the regular-season standings to earn a place in the four-team playoff.

Among the anticipated players in the rescheduled tie is Nigerian international striker Esther Okoronkwo, who is expected to feature prominently as Toronto pushes for a spot in the championship final.
