Somuah Seals Permanent Move to Celta Vigo After Impressive Loan Spell

By Kazeem Ajibola Shoyebo

RC Celta de Vigo have completed the permanent signing of Ghanaian forward Bernard Somuah from Asante Kotoko, rewarding the youngster with a long-term contract following his impressive development during his loan spell in Spain.

The deal confirms the club’s decision to exercise their purchase option after Somuah spent the past season on loan with Celta’s reserve side, Celta Fortuna, where he made a strong impact with his attacking contributions. The Ghanaian forward scored five goals and delivered several influential performances that convinced the Spanish club’s technical team to secure his future permanently.

Somuah originally joined Celta Vigo in August 2024 as part of the club’s youth and reserve team structure, with the agreement including an option for a permanent transfer. His pace, direct attacking play, and creativity from wide areas quickly made him a standout performer and a player identified as part of the club’s long-term plans.

During his loan stint, the young attacker featured regularly for Celta Fortuna in Spain’s Primera Federación, registering five goals, four assists, and consistently troubling opposing defences with his dribbling and offensive movement. His development reflected Celta’s continued commitment to nurturing emerging talent and integrating them into the club’s competitive structure.

The permanent transfer marks a major milestone in Somuah’s career, transforming him from a promising prospect in the Ghana Premier League into a full-time professional within a European club system. His progress in Spain is also seen as a testament to Asante Kotoko’s ability to develop players capable of succeeding at higher levels of international football.

For Celta Vigo, the move aligns with their strategy of investing in young players with high potential, particularly those capable of strengthening the club’s future attacking options.

Somuah’s signing represents both a reward for his rapid adaptation to European football and an opportunity for further growth as he continues his career in Spanish football, with ambitions of eventually breaking into the senior first team.

The Ghanaian forward now enters the next phase of his development with increased expectations, as he looks to build on his promising start and establish himself as one of the emerging African talents in European football.
