South African Premier Soccer League side Chippa United have confirmed that Nigerian and Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has officially left the club by mutual agreement, bringing an end to his four-year stint with the Gqeberha-based side.
In an official statement released on 5 February 2026, Chippa United said Nwabali formally requested to leave the club, and after careful consideration, the club agreed to grant his release. The goalkeeper’s departure concludes his time with the “Chilli Boys”, where he established himself as a key figure between the posts.
Nwabali, 29, joined Chippa United in 2022 from Nigerian side Katsina United, going on to make 76 appearances across all competitions and becoming known for his consistency and leadership. During his spell, he kept 25 clean sheets and earned plaudits for his performances domestically and with the Super Eagles, including helping Nigeria to a bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
In its announcement, Chippa United thanked Nwabali for his years of service, commitment and professionalism, saying his contribution to the club would “always be appreciated,” and wished him well for the next stage of his career.
The release ends months of speculation surrounding the goalkeeper’s future, with reports linking him to potential moves within South Africa’s PSL, as well as abroad, including in Europe and the Middle East.
Chippa United are now expected to begin the process of reinforcing their goalkeeping options as they prepare for the remainder of the PSL season.
