Tella Off the Bench to Open Season Account as Leverkusen Cruise Past Wehen

Nathan Tella made an instant impact off the bench, scoring his first goal of the season as Bayer Leverkusen swept aside SV Wehen Wiesbaden 4–0 in the opening round of the DFB-Pokal.

The Nigerian winger was introduced in the second half and needed only a few minutes to make his mark, finding the net in the 69th minute to put Leverkusen 3–0 ahead. Patrik Schick had opened the scoring shortly before half-time before Lucas Vázquez doubled the advantage early in the second half.

Christian Kofane completed the scoring in the 79th minute as Leverkusen comfortably booked their place in the second round of the DFB-Pokal.

For Tella, the goal provides an encouraging start to the new campaign and an early reminder of his attacking value as he competes for a regular role under new head coach Carles Martínez, who celebrated his first competitive victory in charge.

The 4–0 victory also gave Leverkusen a perfect start to their competitive season, with Tella among the players making an immediate impression in Martínez’s new-look side.
