Tolu Arokodare Scores Brace and Provides Assist as Ajax Humiliate Midtjylland 6–1 in Conference League

Nigerian international striker Tolu Arokodare delivered a sensational performance on Thursday night, scoring twice and providing an assist as Ajax recorded an emphatic 6–1 victory over FC Midtjylland in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

The 25-year-old Super Eagles forward was the standout performer at the MCH Arena in Herning, Denmark, directly contributing to three goals as Ajax secured an impressive away victory in their third league-phase fixture of the competition.

Arokodare opened the scoring in the ninth minute, rising brilliantly to head home an Oscar Gloukh corner and give the Dutch giants an early advantage.

However, Midtjylland responded in the 28th minute through Friday Etim, who capitalised on an opportunity to beat Marc-André ter Stegen and restore parity.

The Danish hosts suffered a significant setback just before the interval when midfielder Kjell Wätjen received his second yellow card in the 43rd minute, leaving his teammates to face the remainder of the contest with ten men.

In the 52nd minute, Arokodare restored the visitors’ lead with a close-range finish after Abdellah Ouazane headed the ball across the penalty area.

The Nigerian striker then turned provider seven minutes later, winning a header and setting up Owen Wijndal, who finished emphatically to extend Ajax’s advantage to 3–1.

Davy Klaassen made it four in the 67th minute, before Oscar Gloukh added another in the 74th.

Substitute Marcos Leonardo completed the demolition in the 82nd minute, sealing a commanding 6–1 victory for Ajax.

The performance further strengthened Arokodare’s growing reputation as one of Nigeria’s most exciting attacking players in European football.

His two goals against Midtjylland took his Conference League tally to three for the 2026/27 campaign, placing him among the competition’s leading scorers, according to UEFA.

The Nigerian forward has also reportedly reached 12 goals across all competitions this season, underlining his remarkable contribution to Ajax’s attacking performances.

His combination of physical strength, aerial ability, movement inside the penalty area and link-up play was particularly evident against Midtjylland.

Beyond his two goals, the assist for Wijndal demonstrated his ability to contribute creatively and bring teammates into dangerous attacking positions.
