Former Nigeria international Michael Eneramo has tragically died after collapsing during a local friendly match in Kaduna on Friday morning, sending shockwaves across the football community.
The ex-Nigeria national football team forward reportedly completed the first half of the game in Ungwan Yelwa before returning for the second half. Just five minutes after the restart, he suddenly went down on the pitch, prompting immediate concern from players and spectators.
Medical assistance was quickly administered as efforts were made to revive him at the scene. However, despite attempts to save his life, he was later confirmed dead.
Initial reports suggest the 38-year-old may have suffered a cardiac arrest during the match, though official confirmation on the exact cause of death is still expected.
Born on November 26, 1985, in Kaduna, Eneramo enjoyed a respected football career, earning caps for Nigeria and making his mark at both domestic and international club levels. Known for his physical presence and goal-scoring instincts, he represented the Super Eagles during his active years and built a reputation as a committed forward.
News of his sudden passing has triggered an outpouring of grief, with tributes expected from former teammates, fans, and football stakeholders across Nigeria and beyond.
His death adds to growing concerns around player health and emergency response systems during matches, particularly in local and informal settings.
For now, Nigerian football mourns the loss of one of its own, a player whose journey from Kaduna to the international stage remains part of the country’s football story.
