UEFA and Confederation of African Football have formalised a renewed partnership aimed at accelerating football development across both continents, signing a new memorandum of understanding to deepen cooperation in key areas of the game.
The agreement, sealed by UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin and CAF president Patrice Motsepe, outlines a multi-year framework focused on infrastructure growth, talent development and improved governance structures.
Central to the partnership is an expanded commitment to youth development and women’s football. Both organisations plan to roll out programmes aimed at boosting participation, enhancing access to elite training facilities and creating clearer progression pathways from grassroots to professional levels.
The initiative is expected to play a significant role in nurturing emerging talent, particularly across Africa, where access to high-level development systems remains uneven.
The agreement also places strong emphasis on improving coaching education and refereeing standards. UEFA’s advanced technical expertise will be shared with CAF member associations through workshops, exchange programmes and structured knowledge transfer.
Officials believe this collaboration will help elevate officiating consistency and coaching quality, aligning African football more closely with global best practices.
Beyond on-pitch development, the memorandum prioritises institutional strengthening. Both bodies will work together to enhance governance frameworks, administrative systems and regulatory standards across African federations.
The move is seen as a step toward more transparent, efficient and professionally managed football structures, while also fostering closer alignment between African and European football systems.
