Defender Ibrahim Hamad capitalised on a defensive lapse in first-half stoppage time to fire home from close range, giving the hosts a deserved advantage heading into the break.
Al Ahly responded after the interval, growing into the game and forcing openings. Their persistence paid off in the 60th minute, when Malian midfielder Aliou Dieng finished off a well-worked move, drilling the ball beyond the keeper to bring the visitors level.
Both sides pushed for a winner in the final half-hour, but disciplined defending and resilient goalkeeping ensured the match finished all square.
